Low carb diet jupiter

Bliss! Spring break is here and you are on vacation! Work has stopped, you're away from the chores and errands, and best of all you don't have to cook. However, you do not want to come back from vacation 10 pounds heavier, so how do you stay healthy on spring break vacation? Here are 6 tips for a healthier spring break to keep in mind before your all-you-can-eat cruise or all-inclusive resort stay.

Watch What You Drink

Unlimited alcohol is an attractive draw to an all-inclusive resort, but sugar is a big contributor to weight gain. Keep in mind just one margarita or pi a colada can add hundreds of extra calories to your day. Opt for a light beer or mixed cocktail, like vodka sodas, which have fewer calories and less carbs. It's all about moderation, so yes, it's okay to indulge in a fruity drink with an umbrella in it once in awhile.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking lots of water will help keep you feeling full and prevent overeating at meals. It is easy to become dehydrated, if you spend a lot of time in the sun and more so, if you are drinking alcohol. Try to alternate water with your alcoholic drinks to stay hydrated.

Get Moving

You'e on vacation, and most resorts and cruises offer a gym--but that can be boring. Try to get moving in not-so-routine ways: swim a few laps in the pool; splash around with your kids or grandkids in the ocean waves; go for a long romantic walk on the beach. Take advantage of the excursions or possibly, free on-site activities like snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, scuba diving. What an idyllic way to burn calories in paradise.

Build A Colorful Plate

Resorts and cruises always offer fresh produce in their buffets and on their menus. Look for whole fruit to grab as a snack, or a scoop of fruit salad to add to your breakfast plate. Start with a green salad at lunch and dinner, and select a veggie side to fill you up and provide your body with necessary nutrients. An added bonus: the vitamins and minerals found in fruits and veggies can prevent and soothe effects of a sunburn, ease hangover symptoms, and prevent illness  all important when you travel. Be sure to select a big portion of produce at each meal.

One Plate Meals

Even though you may be able to indulge in as much food as you want, don't let the idea of a good value derail your health. While it's tempting to go back for plate after plate to try the sushi (and the carving station, and the salad bar, and the ice cream bar), try to keep it to one plate, and check out the carving station the next night.

Ask for Modifications

You won't appear demanding to simply ask how they prepare the fish, or what they cook the veggies in. Inquire if the fish is fried or grilled to make the best choice and stay healthy. Make a request for what you would like, and most of the time they will accommodate you. You are the guest, so remember the staff is there to cater to your desires (within reason).Enjoy your spring break vacation, follow these tips, and you'll enjoy coming back without a few extra pounds!
