Once you are successful with the first change you can go ahead and make another change after a couple weeks or so. By making small changes one after the other, you still are working to become a whole new you and its a much more realistic way of doing it.
2. Do some research
To ensure you will succeed do some research about the change you want to make so that you can plan ahead and have the resources available when you need them. Read up on it go to the library or download some books or reach out to someone who is an authority on the subject. Get to know as much information as you can, by doing a good amount of research you will start to look forward to making the change.
3. Plan for success
Get everything ready so making a change will go smoothly. If it is getting in shape, make sure you have work out cloths on hand. If it is eating better, go grocery shopping and create a weekly menu. Having things ready will help you to eliminate any excuses.
4. Plan for Obstacles
Make a list of potential obstacles. By thinking about and anticipating the problems before they come you will be able to plan a way to cope with those issues when they do arise.
5. Pick a start date
You don't have to make these changes the first week of January. Maybe that is when you start doing your research and then you can start when you are actually prepared. If you if you truly want to make changes then pick a day when you know you will be well-rested, enthusiastic and surrounded by positive people. Its best to wait until your whole mind and body are fully ready to make a change. The more you prepare the more you will know when the time comes and on the big day you will be able to commit 100%.
6. Accept failure
When making a change failure is going to happen but don't let that set you completely back. Accept that you failed at that moment and move on and recommit yourself. Also make a note of what caused you to fail. Are there certain triggers that caused that set back, certain people, places or situations? Write it down as well as what lessons you learned from that particular setback so that when you are in that situation again you will know how to better react. Perseverance is the key to success, as long as you keep trying and you will succeed.
7. Plan rewards
Planning for small rewards are a great way to keep you going during the hardest days. Plan to reward yourself once a week, and make it something you will look forward to so that you are incentives to stick to your goal. Keep adjusting the reward as you go, if you start to notice that you are not inspired by the reward then adjust it. As you feel your self being challenged make the reward a little bigger this will help you to keep going.
